Living Thanksgiving: Part I - Perfect Timing

“God answers prayer! I can testify to that! If I were to write a book, the title would be The Long List of God’s Answers to My Prayers. The index would be the list of all the times Father God has answered my prayers in a way that has changed my life. Each chapter would express what I asked for and how God answered.

I could go back to my innocent childhood prayer for very own microphone (I love to sing!) and the subsequent Answer #2: On Christmas Day 1991, I got a karaoke machine! I could tell you about the time as a college student I begged God that I wouldn’t be disowned when I confronted my mom about my step dad’s abuse of me as a child and about God’s Answer #18: God helped my forgive my Mom and my Step dad thereby bringing healing to our family. Or I could tell you all about my many prayers for a loving, godly, husband and God’s Answer #25: A wonderful man, Ken.

But most recently, God has shown me through his answer to my prayers that though He might not be answering me with the desires of my heart right away, He does have the timing under His beautiful control.

Right now, the most uttered prayer in our household (besides that of thanks for our food!) is that God would bless us with another child. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter and I am blessed everyday watching him be such a good daddy to her. But, that beautiful gift of a daughter was given after three years of hoping, praying, pleading, and submitting. Now, we are going through a similar, but longer process. Last month, we received the news again that I wasn’t pregnant despite the fervent and consistent prayers of my close friends, relatives, and bible study group.

I’ve been praying that God would show me that His timing is perfect. He has been speaking loud and clear! One Tuesday, I asked my friends to pray that I would know God’s timing is always perfect, because the following day I would find out if I were pregnant or not. That day I happened to meet a young mom whose son was in preschool with my daughter. As we began chatting, we found out we had a friend in common serving as a missionary in Kiev, Ukraine. She mentioned she’d be video chatting with our friend that evening; I told her I had sent our friend a letter if encouragement several weeks ago and wondered if she had received it…”
